Dell Inspiron 13-7359 - wireless not working following update

Asked by Mitja

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 13-7359 with Ubuntu pre-installed.

From the beginning, WI-FI was working perfectly well.

However, after running the Software Updater, the option "Enable WI-FI" disappeared altogether from the menu.

I think that the WI-FI should continue working even after updating the software.

Hello,
what's the version of the pre-installed Ubuntu on your computer?
can you run the following command in a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t) and paste the result back here?

uname -a
lspci -nnk

Thanks

Hello!

Meanwhile, I used the recovery option re-installed the non-updated version of ubuntu which was originally installed. Unfortunately, I need this computer for my work and could not wait for another solution.

Nevertheless, I did as suggested and here is the result.

mitja@mitja-Inspiron-13-7359:~$ uname -a

Hello,
thanks for the reply, I think this could be a potential regression to the WiFi driver, can you provide the model name with the following command in a terminal on your pre-installed Ubuntu?? (Since I can't find this Dell Inspiron 13-7359 in our database[1])

cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/product_name

[1] http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/desktop/

Thanks!

Many thanks for your help!

The command:

cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/product_name

returns:

I reported a bug report against linux-lts-vivid(Ubuntu)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-vivid/+bug/1545916

because I think this is a wifi driver regression.

Thanks for the feedback, Mitja.
We appreciate it.
