Feedback on the Dell Precision M3800 - Testarossa MLK HSW

Asked by Benjamin DuPont

I installed Ubuntu 15.04 on my m3800 (which shipped with 14.04). I have two issues: sleep mode, and display resolution when connecting to an external display.

Sleep mode:

The laptop has issues going into and coming out of sleep mode. I'm using the cinnamon desktop. The following issues occur:

* After selecting sleep mode, the laptop appears to enter sleep mode then immediately wakes up
* After coming out of sleep mode, the fonts are very tiny
* Occasionally, the laptop locks up after coming out of sleep mode

Display resolution:

When an external monitor is attached through HDMI, both displays wont operate at their native resolution. The laptop display is a 4k display. If I set the laptop resolution to HD, the external monitor displays at it's native 1900x1200. If I set the laptop display to its native resolution.

Dell has a number Ubuntu packages for 14.04. Are any of them available to newer versions of Ubuntu and would they fix either of these problems?

Hello,
As the 15.04 is not a long-term-supported version[1], and this Dell M3800 is only certified with the pre-installed 14.04 Ubuntu, it's unlikely that those Dell packages will be available for 15.04
I will recommend you to revert back to the pre-installed 14.04.

If you're still interested in walking on the bleeding edge, you can open bug reports [2] for these issues, make them to have a chance to be fixed in the future.

Thanks
