Feedback on the Dell Inspiron M5110 - Queen 15 AMD

Asked by Daniel Sobrinho

Hi everybody,

I have the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in Dell inspiron M5110, however, I have noticed that some applications drop when required more video capability and CPU. So I would like to do a cold installation of the new version, so I have not information about capability of new version in this hardware.

Does anybody knows something like that?

Tks
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

If the graphical job is too heavy to your system (I am not sure what's the drop you mentioned here), you can first try to install the proprietary video driver for it.

As for the Dell Inspiron M5110, it was certified with 12.04 (3.2 kernel), so it should work with 12.04.1 (3.2 kernel).
but in normal cases, it should be fine with 12.04.5 or even 14.04.1 (they're both running on 3.13 kernel), I will suggest you to give these versions a try with a LiveUSB.
If it's too old to run 14.04.1, but you still want to use Trusty, you can try some other light-weighted version like Xubuntu or Lubuntu [1].

Good luck.
