Dell XPS 13 9343 - Microphone not working

I cannot use the microphone on this laptop, but the speakers work fine.

The device shows under sound preferences and is NOT muted. I cannot alter the volume slider for the mic and there is no activity in the bar when noise can be hear.

I have the latest BIOS from dell (pre-installed when the laptop arrived last week) A06/A05 (the fix mentioned everywhere is to install A03 or newer).

What can I do to fix this?

The microphone works fine under windows (so far).

I have tried adding the 'Proposed' (pre-release updates) change repo's as I heard a fix was available, after a reboot the problem persists.

This page provides patches for the 4.0 kernel, I am on 3.19 and do not fully understand how to install the patches anyway :)

Hi,
does your laptop came with Ubuntu on it?
btw, a quick peek in that link you provided here, seems that the 4.0 kernel still not working.

Hi, I have since rebuilt the machine by installing Ubuntu again and the problem has gone. I can only assume this was a hiccup during the original installation. When I looked I found a look of people with the same issue online so assumed I had the same problems.

This looks like a 1 off issue which has been fixed.
