Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 7746 - Hadley 17 MLK BDW

Asked by fire

The description for "Ubuntu on Dell Inspiron 7746" is for an older model, not for the Dell Inspiron 7746. The Dell Inspiron 7746 has:
- Intel HD Graphics 5500 and Nvidia GeForce 845M
- Realtek HD Audio

Hi, thanks for your information.

You are quite likely to encounter a computer model that has different hardware than the model that Canonical has listed as Certified. This happens frequently with laptops and netbooks where you may have an OEM selling one model that many different hardware configurations.

These hardware differences commonly involve different video cards, wireless cards and ethernet devices.

It is for this reason that we provide a list of hardware in each certified system on the system's page at www.ubuntu.com/certification

If your particular variant of a system model is not the same as the one we have certified, there is no guarantee you will enjoy the same user experience as you would with a model variant that WAS certified.

If you have issues with a particular piece of hardware on a certified system, please file a bug by opening a terminal and issuing the command:

ubuntu-bug linux

You will be prompted to answer some questions to help narrow the focus of your bug down. Once filed, your bug will be triaged and acted on accordingly.

" please file a bug by opening a terminal "
I dont use terminals. I dont know how to do that. I use a computer as a tool for a certain purpose. I am a user, not a programmer.

But thanks for your answer. I guess Linux is still not usable for end users.

Hi,

There are currently two “Dell Inspiron 7746” systems available in the Certification website:

- http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201408-15456/

Are these the ones you are referring to when you say “The description for ‘Ubuntu on Dell Inspiron 7746’ is for an older model”?

As Taihsiang explained previously, some manufacturers sell different configurations under the same codename. The Ubuntu Certification website provides the components tested for each model so that you can check if this is, indeed, the same computer as the one you have or not.

I hope this clarifies your original comment.

Regards,

Thanks. Both do not have the Nvidia graphic card which my early 2015 model has. So I guess from the hardware too Linux is still a no go for me.

cheers
