Problem in playback of videos

Asked by Anshul Joshi

Hi, I just installed Ubuntu on 14.04.01 on Dell Inspiron 3543.
Specs of laptop are:
Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU
Intel® Broadwell Graphics or Intel HD 5500m
No discreet GPU (NVidia or AMD)
I installed VLC and tried to playback videos, but I am unable to do so. Tried with default video player too, it failed again.
Also, i tried on Ubuntu 15.04, still it's not working fine.

I think the problem is due to the Intel 5th Generation graphics. I think the drivers is still not available for them. I tried intalling the driver using downloads from Intel but failed.

Also brightness keys are also not working on Ubuntu 14.04 but are working on 15.04.

Please any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
can you specify what you mean by "tried to playback videos, but I am unable to do so"?
What happened?
What file you tried to play with VLC?
Can you play the "How fast.ogg" sample video file found in the Example directory in your home directory?

For the brightness control issue on 14.04 or 14.04.1 (or, before 3.16 kernel), it could be a bug that similar to this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408592
You can try it with the workaround there.
