Hi,
thanks for your feedback.
Would you please paste the output message of the following commands?
lspci -nnvv
xinput
sudo showkey ( together with pressing the SHIFT keys)

If possible, it would be better to paste the output message of the command "dmesg" and "sudo showkey" together with pressing both of the shift keys when this issue happens.

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your feedback.
Both of the current certified HP Pavilion g4 use AMD chips, and your machine uses intel chips,
so I could not verify this issue immediately without further study.
The certified HP Pavilion g4:
http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201212-12396/
http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201209-11638/

For left shift the keycode should be 42 and for right shift it should be 54.
According to your information above,
the hardware of the keys(your shift) seems not to work
because it did not show any keycode but only "keycode 28 release"
which is ENTER.

Did you forget to press SHIFT after applying the shift keys?

1. Please try to use another keyboard to test again.
2. If you are sure the keyboard hardware works normally and it still no keycode shown. Please apply the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' to file a bug report on Launchpad. Then there will be more people come to help you and you could also improve Linux and Ubuntu as well. Thanks for your contribution.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Meghana Cyanam for more information if necessary.
