Ubuntu Pre-Installed for Lenovo K2450 / Lenovo thinkpad E440

Asked by pereze

I have purchased 2 different Lenovo laptops (K2450 and E440) because they are Ubuntu Certified ( 12.04.2 LTS) .
Unfortunately, they were not available with Ubuntu Pre-installed on the shops.
Where can I download these Lenovo preinstalled image/isos of ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS.
I tried to contact Lenovo support but there is no available download on their website.
And I need it to submit/debug some issues as it's the only Ubuntu version officially supported by Lenovo.
If you have it available, I would appreciate if you can provide the link to the ISOs.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,

   Ernesto.

Hello Ernesto,

I'm sorry for the inconvience,
Since Lenovo does not provide the image, I won't have these customized ISO images.
In the other words, Canonical does not have onwership of those images, it's only possible to request them from Lenovo.

Besides the images, do you mind to provide me what kind of issue that you are trying to debug?
I'm curious what the part in "only Ubuntu version officially supported".

Thanks,
Yung

Hi Yung,

Thanks for your reply. And your interest in my opened question.
And sorry for my late reply.

The shortest answer to your reply it's here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1331077/comments/42

The long one, well...

I tried at the closest Lenovo Service Center, here in Bangkok, but
unfortunately they have no clue or idea where to get it.

Sadly, those service centers are specialized only on Windows, with
almost not support at all for Linux users.

Even though Lenovo sells some models with Ubuntu pre-installed, it's
somehow weird that their technicians, or support centers are unable to
provide those images.

They opened a question to the head service support and I'm still
waiting for their answer. (being afraid of what I guess will be their
answer)

The reason why I need this particular image is because is the only
officially supported (supposedly) by lenovo.

I have 2 different Lenovo laptops, with different "issues".

A Lenovo Thinkpad E440, with an issue related to the BIOS/Power
management as described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1331077

(Similar also here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1388618)

A Lenovo K2450 with issues on the Bluetooth/Wireless PCIe card RT8723BE
as described here:
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au_bt/issues/6
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/489014-No-bluetooth-on-Toshiba-laptop

I've downloaded and installed the Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS amd64 image
available from ubuntu servers.

After update/upgrade ( sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade )
system is automatically upgraded to 12.04.5 LTS.

I am not sure, if the mentioned "Lenovo Pre-Installed Ubuntu 12.04.2
LTS" has any package, drivers, or software installed but with any
version ( 12.04.5LTS, 14.04.1LTS or 14.10) problems on this supposedly
"Ubuntu Certified Laptops" persists.

I was hoping, this pre-installed lenovo ubuntu image would run smooth
and flawless on those laptops.
Or use them to contact their Lenovo support service to help debug/fix
described issues if not.

But, as I said.
Thanks again for all your time, and your kind reply.

Best regards,

 Ernesto.
