Hello James,
For your Lenovo T510, it's been certified with Ubuntu 12.04, therefore Ubuntu 10.xx or 11.xx may not work with it. Moreover, these two early desktop versions have already reached the end-of-life. I would suggest you to use 12.04 or 12.04.5

For the driver issue,
unlike Windows, most of the drivers are already included in the kernel, you don't need to do extra installation.
The exception is for the wireless or graphic card, which could be installed from the "Additional Drivers" tool if needed.

I'm not sure what is you question for the SIM card, I guess you want to make the built-in 3G modem works on your laptop.
For this case, if it does not work with 12.04.5 (3.13 kernel), you could give the latest version, Utopic 14.10, a try (boot with a LiveUSB is fine), if it's still not working, please open a bug report with "ubuntu-bug linux" in your terminal.

Thanks.

Hello; my name is James. I have Lenovo x201 (3626fl6) w/ an Intel CORE i7 that I brought two years ago w/ Ubuntu 15.04 install. To explain my problem it started it started to crash last year (2018) and yes I am somewhat new to this OS. I have been real busy for some time to just sit down and learn more about Ubuntu. Now that I have the time, I began to learn more about Ubuntu and that is when I found out that Ubuntu 15.04 was no longer being supported and that I needed the CD w/ Ubuntu 15.04 that I never got when I brought this computer. So I went to your web site to download Ubuntu 15.04, enlisted some help from Landscape. Since I do not have CD/DVD Player, I used a USB Flash Drive to instill it on my Hard Drive. To sum it up, I reinstall Ubuntu 15.04 and got some online support. Everything was going great until my Grandson got into my room (I am staying with my daughter for now) and did something to my computer as well as removing the USB Drive and shutting down my computer before I reinstall Admin. and all the drivers needed to run. Please. I need help in gaining back Admin so as to finish and to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04.

                                                                           Thank you James.

Hi James,

You could try the latest Ubuntu long term support version 18.04.2
Please download the image from https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop. There are clear instructions of how to crate installation DVD/USB stick in the bottom of the web page.
Let us know if you have any problem on installation and running the system.

Thanks
