installation on Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E531

Asked by Ruhan Alpaydin

I downloaded ubuntu image (from http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201304-13465/)
for Lenovo Thinkpad E531 N4IDSTX Notebook and wrote it to a DVD and tried to boot from the DVD. I was unsuccessful.

Looking for the reason: I noticed that the image I downloaded has 'amd64' in its name. E531 has Intel processor.
What is the problem? Which iso image should I use?

Hello Ruhan,
I'm not sure what's your condition for "unsuccessful", however, it will be safer to run MD5 check for the image you downloaded before creating the bootable DVD, to make sure there is no data corruption caused by network connection issue.
For this case (12.04.3), it should be:
e2da0d5ac2ab8bedaa246869e30deb71

http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/precise/MD5SUMS

Also, you could try to create a LiveUSB stick with a USB thumb drive,
please refer to the tutorial here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/

It's okay to use the "amd64" image, which means that the image is for a 64-bit system.

Cheers.
