Feedback on the HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8

Asked by Someth

Hello,

None of the existing issue is the same to mine.

I need the GUI so installed Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 version on HP Proliant DL380p Gen8.
Everything is fine: installation with VLM and partition has been automatically done.
I meant from the the installation until the reboot.

The issue was that after the login into Desktop, it looks like it takes some 10-20s to open just a window and the window is showing up slowly from clicking to window's opening. I don't think that this is desktop scheme effect. And I would like to remind that this is the local connection : monitor with keyboard.

This is strange comparing to another server installed with another Linux.

Have you seen the same behavior ?

Many thanks in advance for your prompt reply.

Best regards,
Kolneath Someth

Hello,
This sounds like a driver-related issue to me,
however, I can't positively say that's the one since I'm not sure what config your system is.
You could try to install the proprietary video driver by searching "driver" in your dash, to see if this could solve your problem.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Based on the same assumption, the proprietary VGA driver MGA 2000 downloaded from unofficial support website has been installed even it is out dated (since 2006) as described on http://forum.tuxx-home.at/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=217
The graphic reaction seems little better but the resolution has been frozen to 640 and could not be modified. Managed to workaround with using xorg.conf configuration on 2 servers but the 3rd can't start the X server as described on graphique http://forum.tuxx-home.at/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=725

Still on the issue...

checkout this http://serverfault.com/questions/590989/video-driver-for-hp-dl380-g6-for-ubuntu-14-04
basically it sounds like servers are not up to the job of graphics.

Hello Someth,
I found Matrox provided some legacy driver for Linux here (pretty old, though):
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/drivers/latest/

Also, an user reported that MGA G200 "may" work with 12.04, see:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+question/255332

You could give it a shot.
Good luck.

Can you help with this problem?
