Latest Ubuntu version for Acer Aspire One

Asked by Mohit

My Netbook:
ACER ASPIRE ONE

As shown in your webpage, "Ubuntu for Acer Aspire One", my netbook is ubuntu certified, but on that page download link for "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit" is only given.

I would like to know if my netbook will fully support the latest version, i.e. Ubuntu 13.04, or not.

Thank you.

Hello,

First, Acer uses the Aspire One name for a wide range of netbooks, but only a few are certified. I suggest you compare your system's list of hardware with the one given for the certified system, to ensure they are the same components. Certified status only applies to a system with the same components as the ones listed here.

There's a good chance the latest (13.04) release of Ubuntu will continue to work well with this system; even if it's not certified, this could just mean that the manufacturer elected not to have the system tested with that release of Ubuntu. However, since the system wasn't certified with that release, we really can offer no assurance that it will.

You can download Ubuntu and prepare a boot USB stick, then boot your netbook with this USB and select "try Ubuntu without installing", this should give you a good idea of the level of support for your netbook. If you're satisfied with it, you can proceed to install and use Ubuntu as normal.

Here are some answers that may help you understand what the certified status means:
