firmware issue -- Lenovo ThinkPad T430s

Asked by Jason

I have a ThinkPad T430s and am running Xubuntu 12.04. The battery controller is very unstable. There is a firmware patch for Windows systems, but nothing for Ubuntu. The charge rate reported and listed in /proc/acpi/battery is usually nonsensical. The machine will simply shut off without warning when on battery power, and usually claims 99% charge capacity even when it has been used for hours without being plugged in.

Any idea on how to resolve this issue would be great.

First, since I cant link two FAQs, the one I did directly link will point you to places to get tech support, including the Ubuntu forums and Ask Ubuntu where there may be others with the same model who can point you to possible fixes. Secondly, there's this one:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+faq/2193

Please file a bug per the info in that FAQ.
FAQ #1945: “Where can I get help or technical support?”.
