Lenovo Thinkpad L512 Ubuntu 12.10 ACPI CPU fan not activating / overheating

Asked by BraD C

Any idea's as to why the CPU fan is not working, I initially thought it was because the BIOS was out of date ( updating the BIOS previously resolved the issue with Ubuntu 12.04 )

Kernel : 3.5.0-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 11 18:51:59 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Running on the latest BIOS version:
Version: 81ET62WW (1.38 )
Release Date: 11/07/2012

cat /proc/acpi/ibm/fan
status: enabled
speed: 0
level: auto
