Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 15 N5050

Asked by Peter Batonyi

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop with Broadcom WiFi and Bluetooth chips.
These devices are doesn't working with Ubuntu 12.04. There is no compatible driver.
I tried it using with non official drivers too, but the WiFi still slow (max speed 0.7 Mbps!), and Bluetooth does not working.

The Broadcom Inc. has drivers for Ubuntu, but these softwares seems like broken!

Unfortunately, there's probably not a lot to do beyond what you've done, just keep looking. The version of the N5050 that is certified has Atheros components rather than Broadcom. If you go to bugs.launchpad.net and search for either BCM4313 or "Broadcom bluetooth" you'll see quite a few bugs.

I would also suggest you file your own bugs for each issue:

ubuntu-bug <package-name>

from a terminal. For the wireless, I am not sure what the package name would be, 'bmcwl'. for the Bluetooth issue, probably bluez would be appropriate. Otherwise, 'ubuntu-bug linux' will open a kernel bug that will be triaged and moved as appropriate.

All worked great for me after installing 12.10 from a dvd. But once I did the system update from the software center my wifi is down. Have not tested the blue tooth yet

Can you help with this problem?
