64-bit iso won't install on Dell Vostro 1015. 32-bit will.

Asked by logictheo

I burned the 64-bit edition Ubuntu 12.04 iso to a cd and failed to install. When I tried with the 32-bit edition everything worked fine.

Perhaps a bad burn? Did you try putting the 64bit image onto a USB key and booting from that?

We have successfully installed and tested 64bit 12.04 LTS on the Vostro 1015 in our test lab, so I know that it will work. Usually, the culprit is bad CD media, bad burns, or a bad ISO download.

First, download the ISO again, then check the md5sum for the ISO against the posted md5 sum at releases.ubuntu.com.

Then make a bootable USB Key using the Startup Disk Creator tool (or Unetbootin should also work, but YMMV there) and try booting from the USB key instead.

Thank you. I didn't check with MD5. I'll download the iso anew, check with md5 and use Startup Creator tool.

Can you help with this problem?
