Feedback on the Dell Vostro 3460

Asked by Jai Ganesh

Networking drivers (wifi and wired connection) pre-loaded (drivers) are not working. I tried in 11.10 64 bit / 12.04 LTS 64 bit and 12.10. I do not want to switch over Microsoft windows operating system. I tried all the option in askubuntu site. Could you pls help me on this. Spoke to Dell customer service; they are not ready support or provide drivers for ubuntu. Could you please help and guide?

Hello Jai,

You are probably seeing this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/927782 (it mentions only ethernet but I think wifi may also be affected). It contains details of what people have been trying in order to get their Atheros networking to work. I hope some of it can work for you. In terms of certification, I'm afraid the definitive answer here is that this system is only certified with a special pre-installed image available in some markets. It's entirely at Dell's discretion where they sell this and since you have said that Dell Customer Service in your area do not mention anything about Ubuntu support, it's quite likely that it is not available in your area.

Thanks,

Can you help with this problem?
