Feedback on the Lenovo Thinkpad T420s

Asked by Nino Sidoti

If Ubuntu have certified the thinkpad t420s then why is it that not all the hotkeys/functions keys work. This laptop has "thinkvantage" button and also has a dedicated Mic On/Off button which does not work in Xubuntu.

I really like Ubuntu software but this is not acceptable to say a piece of hardware is fully certified to run Ubuntu ad yet not all the hardware fetures work, eg fucntions keys, thinkvantage keys, Mic on/off key, Switch the trackpad or trackpoint on/off.

Hello Nico,

I understand your frustration, but currently, the Ubuntu Certification programme does not include some of the special function keys in its coverage.

The coverage of the programme is public and it can be found at

   https://certification.canonical.com/static/docs/coverage_by_release/12.04/Ubuntu_Desktop_Certified_Hardware_Coverage_12_04.pdf

As you can see, the current hotkeys that are covered are:

Whitelist:
 * General sound mute key (not mic mute)
 * Volume keys

Greylist:
 * Brightness
 * Media control
 * Wireless
 * Sleep
 * Video switch

We work hard to increase the coverage of Ubuntu Certified every release.

Can you help with this problem?
