Dell Inspiron N411Z NIC & LTS

Asked by Colin

Hi, when installing Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS 32 bit, on a Dell Inspiron N411Z, advertised as Ubuntu certified, the install process is unable to detect the built-in wired NIC. I have verified the NIC works in the pre-installed Windows 7 64bit. Is there a third party driver I can install to make the NIC work? If so I can't find it after several searches online. Bottom line is what is the solution to fix this issue, as clearly the NIC should be detected during the install process?

This system is not certified with 10.04 LTS. It was initially enabled to work with pre-installed 11.04 and then certified with stock Ubuntu releases. Please read the systems certification page carefully to avoid disappointment:

Hello,

As you can see, this system is certified for 11.10 (or 11.04 pre-installed only).

You can try to install Ubuntu Desktop 11.10 on it, and if it has the same NIC as the one that we tested, it should work out of the box.

Thanks,
Ara.

The NIC in question is:

Atheros Communications Inc. AR8152 v2.0 Fast Ethernet

Check if you have this same model on your system, if you do then it should definitely work.

Can you help with this problem?
