Feedback on the Dell Optiplex 390

Asked by Robert Hrovat

These machines should not be certified at all. At least with Ubuntu 11.04 DVD drive is not visible. Versions 10.10 or lower does not see hard drive and DVD drive so installation is not possible.

Robert,

What has happened here is that Dell ship the Optiplex 390 in different form factors - Mini-tower, Desktop and Small form-factor. Unfortunately a flaw in the view of our certification database means that there was no distinction made between the different form factors. The Mini-tower does in fact have a working DVD drive, so the Optiplex 390 appeared as being certified in general for 11.04.

Note that 10.10 was certified for Pre-install only so it's likely that if you use a stock Ubuntu image then there will be more problems than even in 11.04.

We will make a note on the certification entry for this system that the Minitower is the form-factor which is certified for 11.04.

Can you help with this problem?
