Feedback on the Lenovo Thinkpad T420

Asked by dansheen

How can the system be certified? Forums are full of messages regarding crashes on suspend and in xorg. Describing the system as certified is misleading. I bought such a machine and I have to return to windows. It is absolutely unusable with 11.04. You mention it was certified with a pre-installed version. That's misleading, too, as you cannot buy this in version anywhere in any web shops I tried. Very disappointed I made a purchase decision on this forum. Completely discredited for me.

This system is not certified with 11.04, only with 10.10. The 10.10 certification is a pre-install, meaning it may contain fixes for various hardware issues. Purchasing this system with a pre-installed image is only currently available from the manufactor, which has the final say in if and when it will be sold.

Hi,

The T420 failed certification for 11.04, which is why it's not listed as being certified for that release. It is certified for 10.10 but only with the preinstalled version of Ubuntu which Lenovo make available in some markets. If it's not available in your region then that is because Lenovo have decided not to ship it with Ubuntu pre-installed there (for example I am in the UK and can't buy any Lenovo with Ubuntu pre-installed)

The T420 doesn't work with stock 10.10 neither - the forums are full of it. I tried the US, UK and German webshops - the system is not available with Ubuntu. Accrediting it is a marketing stunt. I'm very disappointed that Ubuntu partakes in it.

The site does not say that the T420 works with stock Ubuntu 10.10, only pre-installed - as noted on the page for the T420, this is available only in some markets and you should check it's available before buying.
