Feedback on the Dell Latitude E6420

I couldn't get the Ubuntu 11.04 installer to run; the CD booted and the menu could be displayed, but then it only showed a half black, half white screen.

The fix: The switching between the nvidia and onboard graphics card ("Optimus") must be disabled in the BIOS, then it works just fine. See here for more details: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1726575

I think it would be very worthwile to write this down somewhere so people can google it and save others the time I spent troubleshooting.

Hi Wolfgang,

I'd point out that the system we certified didn't have the 'Optimus' card, so we wouldn't have run into this issue. As Victor mentioned, it's good you noted it as Google searches will find this question if anyone else has a similar problem.
