Integrated webcam-mic not detected on Dell Vostro 3400

Asked by Rene Tavera

Hello, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 ona Dell Vostro 3400 32bit and everything works perfect but the integrated webcam/mic, they aren't even detected. I plugged a USB webcam and it's working perfectly, the problem is the internal one.

Attached is my lshw output.

Regards

Can you please give the lsusb output - even if the camera is internal it is still probably going to be on the USB bus?

Just to confirm, can you check if /dev/video0 (or similar) exists? Also, the output of 'ls /dev/v4l/by-id'

Ok, there is no /dev/video0 if I try to use the integrated webcam, there is no /dev/v4l neither

If I plug a Logitech QuickCam Messenger, I get this:

/dev/video0 exist

ls /dev/v4l/by-id : usb-046d_08da-video-index0

Again, the integrated webcam is not being detected.... maybe a hardware faiulre....

Tried sucessfully on another laptop, same vendor and model. The original problem was a hardware failure. Thanks!

Hi,

I have install Ubuntu-10.04LTS 32-bit on Dell Vostro-3400. Everything peripherals are working fine except Microphone, which is a integrated webcam + mic.
I have tested webcam is working, but mic is not working. I have tested with sound recorder utility as well.

Regards,
Goutam

Goutam Kumar: Please open your own question regarding this issue, https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+addquestion as this one has been closed.

Even better, if you need some help getting this working (this sounds more like a support request than an actual question), please try askubuntu or the Ubuntu Forums:
