What does Ubuntu 64-bit PC (x86_64) mean?

Asked by UM

Hello Ubuntu Certification Programme,

I would like to ask if the Ubuntu 64-bit PC (x86_64) means the Desktop Edition? I've scrolled in the certification section for Dell PowerEdge T610 and it has the Ubuntu 64-bit PC (x86_64) as certified. Does it means that I can install the Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) Desktop Edition onto the Dell PowerEdge T610?

Many Thanks for the clarification.

Kind Regards

Utam

The Dell PowerEdge T610 is a server, being certified for Ubuntu 64 bits means that we have tested it for Ubuntu Server Edition (64 bits) and it works properly.

We haven't tested this system with the Desktop Edition of Ubuntu, and we cannot guarantee that all its devices will work properly with this flavour of Ubuntu. However, as a free software product, you can feel free to give it a try.
