The hardware models to be certified by a given OEM/ODM hardware partner is entirely up to the partner to decide on. It also very heavily depends on their testing plans as well. Because of this, it's entirely possible that older hardware (older than 1 generation back) will never be certified for the current Ubuntu release. It's also possible that SOME models of the current generation will be certified quickly and others will not appear for some time.

If you are an end-user and have need to have your hardware earn Ubuntu Certification, you should contact your vendor and insist that they certify the model you need quickly. We'll gladly work with them to make that happen.
