The synaptic package manager fails to get launched

We cannot add newpackages to the custom iso we are building because the synaptic is notgetting launched on clicking the synapticoption

I am trying to build a custom iso using ubuntu builder.But when i try to launch synaptic by clicking on the option available on the ubuntu builder home ,synaptic does not gets launched.
The build shows an error :
"Package synaptic is nt available,but is reffered to by another package.This may mean that the package is missing,has been obsoleted,or is only available from another source"
