Can't install Kubuntu 10.10 via Wubi

Asked by KOLANICH

Hello.
I tryed to install Kubuntu 10.10 via Wubi.
I had downloaded x86 cd image, opened it in Daemon Tools, launched wubi.exe, made settings, made first phase of installation.
When i had rebooted into "Kubuntu", I saw dots, then mouse cursor appeared, then saw message "installer crashed" and a lot of python error traceback info, in the end it was written "ioerror".

how can i install it?
md5 of image is right
my computer has core 2 duo E6600 CPU, 2gb ram, msi p965neo motherboard, GeForce 8600GT (256 mb) GPU

Are you running it as admin?
Have you chkdsk'd the partition?

"Are you running it as admin?"
yes
"Have you chkdsk'd the partition?"
no
no need in it
there were no hard reboots after formating c

10.04 has been instaled succesfully (and was removed after it, because i tried to upgrage it to 10.10, but upgrader crashed with code 1 and broke 10.04)

try placing the wubi.exe and the .iso in the same folder, and run wubi.exe from there. Wubi doesn't need you to emulate a CD.
I don't know if this is the problem, but I've never seen the problem you described either.

PS sometimes nvidia cards need workarounds such as supplying 'nomodeset' to the boot options. I don't think this is the same problem you're getting but it's something you can try if you installing it using the above method doesn't change anything. See this link for details on modifying boot options (there is a specific entry for overriding the wubi install - entry #8): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

1 wubi, copyed from the disk, asks disk
2 wubi, loaded from the canonical site, doesnt work with 10.10 iso because wubi on the site is 10.04 (in the log is written that 10.10 != 10.04)
3 "Wubi doesn't need you to emulate a CD." i emulate cd bbecause i don't want to burn it
if i want install kubuntu as main OS, i will
now there is no need to burn, because all needed files are copied from the disk to "ubuntu" folder

Mounting the MD5 tested ISO and running the wubi installer should be ok. I suggest you check the drive health as it may be having issues you are not aware of. You should also test your RAM

Don't upgrade from 10.04.1 wubi to 10.10. It's known to fail.
Get the wubi.exe for 10.10 here http://releases.ubuntu.com/maverick/

This bug looks similar, except they have a real message - yours looks like the translation file is messed.

So not sure about that... never seen this before.
