wordpress on lamp

Asked by btrippy@rochester.rr.com

Hi folks. Loving the LAMP!

Everything went great (as expected) with the lamp install, but I need to add wordpress to it as well. I tried installing it as a package, but I have no idea where it went. I downloaded it from wordpress.org and used the upload to server feature in web-admin, and it unpacked fine (only as user root.. all others fail to upload). I tried to configure it, but it's telling me "Sorry, I can't write to the directory. You'll have to either change the permissions on your WordPress directory or create your wp-config.php manually."

What user do I need to upload the files to, or do I need to chown them to nobody or www-data? I'm afraid that if I don't figure this out, I'm going to run into other problems down the road with wordpress.

Thanks
Brian

Thanks for the kind words!

Why don't you just install the TurnKey WordPress appliance? http://www.turnkeylinux.org/wordpress

Hi Alon, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm already using the lamp iso install. Can't I just install the wordpress app on the lamp?

Sorry to say, but no, appliances are self-contained [1].

Just as you installed LAMP and had everything pre-integrated and working out of the box, so is the WordPress appliance self contained.

I would recommend you go with the WordPress appliance if possible. It would probably be the easiest way to get up and running. If you are using virtualization (e.g. VirtualBox, VMWare), then creating a new VM along side LAMP would do it...
