Email is not sending account emails from Turnkey MediaWiki

Asked by Danny Baker

After installing MediaWiki (Turnkey) on the VM Server I add an account and do not receive the confirmation email. I thought this was enabled during the installation. Thanks for the help in advance!

Hey Danny,

Yes, if the user provides an email address during signup then he is sent a "confirmation code" - not required to log in, but the user will need to provide it before enabling email based features.

Are you not receiving any emails sent from mediawiki, or only the confirmation code?

Things to check:
- Can mediawiki access the internet and resolve DNS?
  Check your mail queue (mailq) to see if the mails are being sent, and the logs (/var/log/mail.*)

- Have you changed the administrative email addresses, set in /etc/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php ?
  Defaults for $wgEmergencyContact and $wgPasswordSender is webmaster@localhost;
  Most spam filters will flag the email as spam, so keep that in mind if you don't change the defaults.

Hope the above helps.
