Unable to open either virtual box or Linux programmes

Asked by jenniferlb

Hi there,
Thanks for your assistance thus far. I have been going through the video frame by frame to see what I have missed but am still unsure.
I have a windows XP 2003 system, and downloads appear now on my C drive. Should I try to zip these files and then extract them?
I have gone through your installation video several times. However, it does not state how you open these files- ie; virtual box or linux. The first screen for virtual box shows a prompt screen which I cannot get to. What file extensions open these programmes please?
Many Thanks,
Jennifer

I think you are suffering from mismatched expectations. An appliance is not a Windows program that you run on Windows. An appliance is an operating system environment like that Windows CD that a technician used to install your PC. With VirtualBox you are creating a virtual machine inside your PC and installing the appliance into it.

Installing VirtualBox on your XP system should be easy. If you're having trouble try consulting the documentation on their website.

I've successfully installed several appliances on my sun virtualbox (running on a dell quad /vista). The Moodle installation has baffled me. I have downloaded the iso image twice, copied to cd, created moodle vm, and assigned the iso to boot. The second time, i renamed everything moodle2 to prevent any conflict, but had the same result.

The machine starts up and displays ISOLINUX 3.53 Debian-2009-03-09 Copyright (C) 1994....etc.
and does not move beyond that. i will note that the cd light comes on for a second and then off.

The iso size is 38,??? kbytes.

I have also downloaded the other optional files, but have not spent the time on how to import them to vm.

Thanks for any guidance...
tom
