how to start mediawiki

Asked by zzgorme

I installed the mediawiki appliance on virtualbox. Starting this gives me an advanced menu option. When I set and close this I get a logon screen. The turnkey page says to put in admin as username and turnkey as password but it says this is incorrect. When I put in root as the username and the password I selected I just get a command prompt and don't know what commands to put in to start mediawiki or get a graphical interface.

When it starts up I get a blue Turnkey Linux Configuration Console. This has an ip address but if I try to go to this ip address in firefox in Vista Business I get nothing. I installed Windows 7 on a Virtual Box as well and it connects to the network with no problems. I am a Microsoft system administrator. If I select Advanced Menu I get a message, Do I really want to quit. If I select yes I get a login screen saying mediawiki login. On your web site it says put in admin as username and turnkey as password but these don't work. If I put in root as username and the password I selected in installation then I get a command prompt and I don't know what to do from there. This is where I installed the appliance. I have a second mediawiki image where I don't install it but just run it directly from the image but this won't let me log in either, and the web address doesn't work either.

Maybe its a problem with firewall within vista. Cane you ping the ip address of mediawiki appliance on virtualbox ?

Virtualbox might be tricky, as on default it connects you to its own dhcp. Tray to change from NAT to host interface in virtualbox (Virtual machine Settings →Network). Make sure its connected to working interface and that its up.

I got it working. I tried different settings in each of the 4 adaptor settings. One worked, not sure which one but I picked up a DHCP address from our router ok.
