automation of backup fetching

Asked by flecktor

hi,

now that i know that a usb could be done, i would like to make an automated backup.

there is a backup in the mysql throw the webadmin, as a dail backup.

now i would like to fetch the backup from the linux to a windows computer on the network.

there is no filesharing configuraed, if you have a tutorial or howto , to do this, then it would be very helpful.

other way is ssh, with a bash to fetch the file, which too no clues were found.

please help.

any other meaningful suggestion would be helpful.

thanks.

There are a lot of ways to accomplish what you want, I would go with a combination of rsync over ssh.

A couple of references that should get you going:
- http://www.rsync.net/resources/howto/windows_backup_agent.html (possibly your best bet)

Good luck!

thanks a lot Alon for the quick answer, the answer was good, the boss mind was changed and he wishes for nothing to be installed on the backing up server. so now he says we should define ftp on the windwos server , and from the ubuntu push the data to the server location.

Auto backup to external ftp is not yet implemented in turnkey linux but you could have a look on one of webmin extensions:

In standard set there are 2 packages:
http://www.webmin.com/standard.html

Third-Party Modules:
http://www.webmin.com/cgi-bin/search_third.cgi?modules=1

Note that webmin on turnkey linux is stripped out of many modules in order to reduce complexity of system.

As szczym mentioned, we only include webmin modules in appliances that are generic and useful enough for the specific appliance, and to reduce complexity and bloat.

But, we have packaged all the webmin modules to be installed/managed by the APT package managment system. See the following for some more details: http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/support/20090102/install-mysql-webmin-configuration-lapp-appliance
