virtual hosts in turnkey 1.5 joomla appliance

Asked by scrapcan

I was wondering if or how one can use virtual hosts in the joomla appliance. Is this possible or is the appliance setup for a single website server.

All TurnKey appliances are initially configured to serve their specific purpose, but are Ubuntu underneath, so you can configure them anyway you want.

Configuring virtual hosts can be done using the web interface (webmin), or by directly editing the apache configuration [1].
Drop us a line if you have any trouble, but please provide as much information as possible.

Alon,

Thanks for your comments. I am familar with setting virtual hosts through webmin or hand editing the httpd config file, but I am not familar with running joomla. Do I need to install joomla in the directory for each site or can you run it from the root www folder like things are setup in either the Lamp stack or the Joomla appliance?

Thanks you again for your assistance.

If I understand correctly you are looking for Joomla multisite support.
A quick google search and revealed a couple of extensions that provide this functionality, although I have not tried them myself.

joomla.org seems to be down, when it comes back up you might want to check this out:

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but I'm interested to know how it goes - so keep us updated!
