Are there syntax differences between Ubuntu and Debian Patch methods?

ie, in the OpenERP patch there is a 6.03 on Ubuntu 10.4 Patch described. What would need to change in syntax to run the same on Debian. I believe this is on a LAPP appliance but it may be off of a Core appliance.

It would depend on the patch. As Debian Squeeze and Ubuntu Lucid are so close, I imagine that many will work OOTB.

However most of the available ones are getting quite dated now so may not even work on Ubuntu in their current form.

Unfortunately you would have to test on a case-by-case basis.
