Impact of changing sub-domain to search results

I am developing a site and using dev.domainname.com. If I was to index the site now to test it while it's being developed and then when it's ready to launch change the sub-domain to www (not dev), would this effect the way the search results work?

You would need to re-index your site to update the URLs.
