DELL XPS 410, CPU Fan speed control

Hi, I am planning to installing Ubuntu 8.10 on Dell XPS 410. Does Ubuntu 8.10 control the CPU Fan speed. When I tried Linux Mint a few months back the fan used to always run a max (noisy) speed.

tp-fan can only control ThinkPad fans. If your fan always runs at full speed there seems to be a hardware problem. Contact DELL support.

I also have a dell. I use dellfand to control the fan.
Google it.
