Cannot install 'python2.5-dev'

Asked by gmalac

Hi,
I am under ubuntu 8.04 and using gdeb it won't install for the message above.
Going to synaptic and trying to install python2-5-dev I got this error message:
QUOTE:
python2.5-dev:
  Depend : python2.5 (=2.5.2-2ubuntu4) but 2.5.2-2ubuntu5 must be installed
UNQUOTE:
Any idea?
Thanks
Guy

I found this hit on google. Run this command :

sudo apt-get install python2.5-minimal=2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1 python2.5=2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1

Apparently there is a mismatch between the versions of php and php-dev, and they backed out the one but not the other.

Worked for me.
