Blank (black screen) on time out

Running Linux Mint Isadora - (which I believe is basically Ubuntu 10.04).

When a user runs out of time the system starts to log out (it may complete this I don't know) and leaves them with a black screen.
I can't do anything, and I've no clue what to do other than straight power off (which I'd prefer not to do).

Any ideas?

Mint should be just like Ubuntu, but some things are changed. Timekpr is targeted at Ubuntu. Sorry!

We might make a version that will work with other distros later, but at the moment development is going slow...
