Time spent is different from actual usage

Asked by Apiacere

Hi,

First of all, thank you for the nice app to control my kids' computer usage.

However, I have an issue regarding time spent using this app.
My son told me that when he just turned on computer it showed that already 1hr 30min was spent.
He always turns off the computer after each use. So, there is no way that much time had been used when he just turn on.
It happened several times before. So, I removed the app and re-install fresh.
It worked out okay for a while. Now it does again.
All the setting were remained when I checked the computer, but just time spent was not accurate (didn't use but it shows time had been used).
I'm using under Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
I'm an administrator on that computer and I created his account. I don't use that computer at all.
Do you have any suggestion? Is there anything I didn't do, or something I did wrong?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Please send me log files and config files via e-mail or zip & upload them to somewhere I can access them.
Namely: /var/log/timekpr.log and all under /var/lib/timekpr/ (two directories under this one).

I'll take a look what's up, this seems odd, but we'll see.

I just looked at the log file. ( I wanted to look at, but I didn't know where to look. Thanks for letting me know).
It appears that there was some activities at the time while computer was turned off.
I suspect that when he powered off the computer (without loggin out and power off) the computer may have some activities over night while off.
So, this time I made him log off and power off. I will check it again tomorrow to see if this is the case.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks.

I have added a section in README with log file locations which was missing.

There can't be any activity on computer while it's actually turned off, most likely it was not turned off. Even if it was not turned off but just properly locked, timekpr should not account time towards the user's limit except if inactive session tracking is turned on.

Anyhow, if something looks odd, I'll need the log files.

When I make him log out before power off, then there was no issue.
He powered off in the past, then somehow there were activities over night.
It is strange, but logging out seems work.
Thanks.
