User not found

Asked by Charles McDowell

I added restrictions to my son's account in the admin control panel and confirmed it in the config text file itself (and closed and reopened the admin panel), but when he logs in it shows --:-- for everything and says he has 24 hours to go. When I (from his account) run the client program again manually, it gives an error that his username is not found. Is this a bug or user error?

That's strange, tbh.
Which OS and version are You running?
Can You send /etc/timekpr.log file as well as everything under /var/lib/timekpr (there are config files only) to my e-mail or create a bug and attach files there.
Then I'll be able to check out what's wrong.

I'm running ubuntu 19.04. I found a log file, but here: var/log/timekpr.log, not in /etc/.

In any case, when I looked at the log I saw that the user of interest was somehow on the excluded list. I removed it and things appear to be working, so you can consider this case closed. Thanks.

Ok, that's rather good :)
If I may ask, what is the name of the user in question?

Well, this is an interesting coincidence :)
KDM once was a K Display Manager and it was on ignore list because of that :) Timekpr should not control display managers, right ;)
It's now almost extinct and it's possible to create a user with that name.

I'll try to improve user detection a bit, so these coincidences do not happen.
