wine: cannot find '/usr/bin/thred.exe.so' (solved!) + docs needed

Asked by Deepinthekernel

Ni Nathan, et al.

I am trying Thread for the first time having read about it here http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/embroidery-design-on-linux-now-possible-with-thred I have upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 in the hope that I would be able to run this.

After installation through synaptic using the 4.0 daily ppa, typing thread at the command line produces the message in the summary, very fast, and nothing else, exit status 2. The files /usr/lib/thred and /usr/bin/thred.exe.so are both present.

The solution to this is that the variable WINEPREFIX should be set in the thred shell script or before running it.

Ok, I answered my first question.

Thred runs, or at least looks like it does!!
There seems to be no help though as yet. Is there a simple example of use anywhereexplaining in a step-by step fashion how to create a design? Or a monogram? Any other documentation on how this is supposed to work?

There is a help file, thred.chm. It should be accessible when you press the "help" button inside Thred. It's a little messy right now, as it comes from the Windows version, but most of it is still applicable. I'm not sure where the program expects the CHM file to be, though. Probably in the same directory as the executable, at least it's how it was on the Windows version.

Personally I have it set up in the development directory, because like regular Windows programs it is standalone and is not yet FHS-aware, I believe. So all of its files could be put to /opt, for instance, or ~/.thred or similar. Since I'm using openSUSE and not Ubuntu, I'm not certain how it is packaged, but at least once built from code, there is little reason to move any of the files out of the build directory at the moment. It will probably change in the future once the program gets less reliant on winelib.

as the query of how to create a design was 12 months ago, perhaps you have found the lessons for Thred re digitising (creating) or editing an embroidery design from basic to advanced features. They are on the Thred site --www.thredworks.com

I've been using Thred for years and I find itś stitch editing features easier when altering designs compared to some other software I also use. I use Linux for the internet and would very much appreciate a Linux version for Thred. thks E

E Mills, it's already usable through Winelib. Unfortunately, the codebase is very messy, and even though I started refactoring it, it seems that people who are working on Embroidermodder2 have a better shot at this at the moment.

Jewelry is popular. People love jewelry and will spend money on it if they want nice accessories. Most retailers sell jewelry online via e-commerce websites. You can see more detail here https://www.jewelrynest.com/designer-diamond-gemstone-rings.html
