Is there any plans of merging terminator and gnome-terminal

Asked by Lauri Niskanen

I currently use gnome-terminal as my default terminal. It has some features that makes it better than terminator. But terminator also has some nice features that I can't use in gnome-terminal. These terminals are very close to each other and I'm wondering if there is any plans of merging the two projects. So you would put the nice features of terminator to gnome-terminal.

Do they use the same code base and would the merge easy to do?

We use the same underlying terminal widget as GNOME Terminal, so there's no theoretical reason why they couldn't have the same features we do, and vice versa.
However, Terminator is written in Python and GNOME Terminal is written in C. I chose to start Terminator rather than hack on GNOME Terminal because I am very bored of C and much prefer Python.

So basically, unless the GNOME Terminal guys want to re-implement what we have done (which I would be entirely happy to talk to them about, to discuss the benefits/problems of our features), a merge seems very unlikely.

Can you help with this problem?
