Is there a way to make URLs open on middle or even left click?

Currently I have to right click and select "Open link". Is there a way to make URLs open on middle mouse click - maybe even on left click?

As per the included manual (0.98 onwards):

Ctrl+click

    Will try to open the item in a suitable program depending on what the type of the item is (see below).
