When output is too long, you can't see it all.

I have a directory with hundreds of sub-directories. When I run ls -l, I can't scroll all the way back up to the top of the list.
It looks like Terminator is limited to 500 lines of output.
Is there a way to increase that limit, or get rid of it entirely?
