Select text without mouse

Select text without mouse would be a killer feature. This is possible in screen with ^A-Esc or in a Mac terminal. This is amazing, but it seems that this feature is impossible on linux. Is it easy to implement ?

I'm not aware of any way this would be possible with the VTE terminal widget we use, unfortunately
