Default browser for hyperlinks

Asked by Jack A.

Hello,

I have read in other questions here that URLs are handled via xdg-open. I have my user's environment variable $BROWSER set to /usr/bin/conkeror as well as the list of browsers in xdg-open set to conkeror:$BROWSER. When opening a link in Terminator, Opera runs instead. I figure I did this on purpose at one time, as I used Terminator for a while before switching to other terminal emulators to try out, and used Opera at that time, but I can't remember how I did this. Is there any config specific to Terminator that would cause this, or some other OS-wide config that you know of?

Thanks

By default we use Gtk's built in URI opening facility, only falling back to xdg-open if that is unavailable (e.g. on an older Gtk). This means it is likely using whatever is set in gconf as your preferred browser.
