How can I install to assist with bugs / testing?

I'd love to assist with Bugs, Testing, and Features. I am a big FTP user and find that Linux is in desperate need of solid FTP client that is simple and intuitive to use. How do I install? I've pulled the package down and installed but I cant get it to compile. It errors with package granite not installed.
