Budgets and Sub Efforts

Asked by Chris Griffin

I have a main Effort that has the budget for the entire project. I then have multiple sub efforts under it that are branched off it. If I spend 1 hour on a sub-effort, it shows the time spent when I click the details of the parent effort and go to the "Efforts" tab. If you got to the Budget tab, it does not take away from the main budget at all. Is that the way it is suppose to work or am I missing something to make that work right?

Hi Chris,

I suppose you meant to say "main task" and "subtasks under it" for you say "main effort" and "sub efforts under it"?

Anyway, you can see the total time spent in the task viewer by making the time spent column visible. When the main task is expanded it shows the time spent on the main task. If you collapse the main task, it shows the time spent on the main task and all of its subtasks (recursively).

Cheers, Frank

I already have that column there that shows the "subtasks under it". I want the subtasks to take away from the main tasks budget. That's what I'm trying to ask...how to make the subtasks take away from the main tasks budget.

ok, I just collapsed the main task and it then displays the remaining budget...Is there no way to display that without having to collapse the main tasks?

Hi Chris,

No, that's currently the only way. I agree it would be nice to be able to see it in the task dialog as well.

Cheers, Frank
