Setting start and end date marks task as 100% completed

Asked by Jan Janssen

Hello,

When I add a task and set the start, planned end and real end date. The program automatically marks the task as complete (100%). That's very irritating when completed tasks are hidden...

Kind regards,

Jan Janssen

Hello,

This problem still exists. More information:
* Running Win7, several clean installs
* Installed several times, did not help

Like I said, tasks are marked as complete when I just add a new one. That’s really irritating!

Kind regards,

Jan Janssen

Hi Jan,

I'm sorry, we somehow missed your original question. Can you please try the following:
1. Stop Task Coach if it's running
2. Remove your TaskCoach.ini file (located in something like C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\TaskCoach)
3. Start Task Coach.
4. Add one task (hit Insert and then Return)
5. Add a second task (hit Insert and Return again).

Is the first task completed now? If not, what do you have to do to recreate the problem?

Thanks, Frank

PS: I'm assuming you are using the latest version (1.2.12). If not, please upgrade first.

Oke, I followed your steps but these didn't work either.

I'm indeed running the latest version 1.2.12.

Here are the steps that I do and produce my problem. Unfortunately it is not possible to add pictures to these comments so I used links to the pictures. (for all pictures use this link: http://img189.imageshack.us/g/dates.png/)

1. I start taskcoach
2. I hit Insert to add a task
3. In the dates tab, I check all dates. In all other tabs I do nothing
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/6631/dates.png
4. Then I click OK
5. In the main window, the new task is now marked as competed.
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/3953/taskcoach.png
6. When I open the task and go to the Progress tab, I see that the progress is set to 100%. Not by me, but automatically
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/1782/taskcompleted.png

When I in the progess windows set “Mark task completed when all children are completed?” to no, the problem stays the same.

I hope it is clear now what my problem is. Maybe I’m doing something wrong I don’t know. I did not change any setting to the program, so I’m used default settings.

Hi Jan,

In step 3, you set a completion date. That makes the task completed. If you don't want that, don't fill in a completion date. In step step 6, the percentage complete is 100% because you filled in a completion date in step 3.

Does that help?

Cheers, Frank

Frank,

Thanks for you answer. If I don't set a completion date, the task will not be marked as completed. But I thought the completion date is the date that the task really must be finished and the due that the expected date. What does the completion date do?

And another thing, the completion date is set at a later time than the current time. So the task isn't completed already!

Jan,

The completion date is the actual completion date. You can fill it in manually, or you can select a task and mark the task completed. If you mark a task completed, Task Coach automatically sets the completion date (and time) for you, using the current date and time.

Setting the completion date to some future date doesn't make much sense, but I see no reason to forbid it either.

The due date is indeed the planned end date. When the due date is in the past, the task is considered to be "overdue", until you either push back the due date or complete the task.

Cheers, Frank

Oke, clearly. I will not use the completion data anymore.
