How do I create a dependency and/or Prereq?

I would like to create some dependencies and prereqs for a task but it is unclear how I need to do that -- please can you explain -- thanks.

Edit the task (by double-clicking it for instance) and go the the "Prerequisites" tab of the task editor. Check the prerequisites. Same thing for the dependencies, in the "Dependencies" tab.

OK, if I bring up the editor for a task here are the tabs I see: Description, Dates, Prerequisites, Progress, Categories, Budget, Effort, Notes, Attachments, and Apperance.

If I now go to Prerequisites tab all I see now is an exact copy of the viewer screen. I can in no way edit the prerequisite. And no tab even exists for dependents.

The viewer shown in the prerequisites tab should have a checkbox on the left of each task that can be made a prerequisite of the one being edited.
